Excerpt from Chapter 8.
There was a problem though – I really liked eating sandwiches. The first three times I ate a sandwich in Freddie’s presence, the same thing would happen. I would make the sandwich and sit on the sofa where Freddie was apparently asleep. He would be sleeping on his back, with his feet tucked up. After about ten seconds, his nose would start to move very slowly. Soon it would start to move up and down slightly, as though some invisible person had tied a thread through his nostrils and was moving the thread up and down.
After 30 seconds, Freddie would awake and his gaze would be fixed on the sandwich on my plate. He would stand up, stretch, and work out the quickest way to the plate – all the time his eyes wouldn’t move from the sandwich. He would then run towards me, stop about a foot away from me, and then swipe the sandwich from the plate onto the floor with one swish of his paw. I would be in a slight state of shock at his behaviour, so Freddie would jump on the floor and sink his teeth into the sandwich.
