This is an extract from my new book Travel Sights Travel Guides don’t mention. This book describes a large number of little known tourist sights from around the world. A book for the discerning traveller who has been everywhere else.

In the deserts of Northern Sudan stand nine perfect cubes in three rows of three, aligned with where the sun would have risen on the eastern horizon in 7,721BC. Each of the cubes is 9 royal cubits in height, width, and depth. There is evidence of water erosion. Each cube is 27 royal cubits from any other cube. There are no markings on the cubes, no symbols, no references to gods or pharoahs. Rock is the same as that at the Giza Plateau, limestone. There is a passageway under the centre cube, leading to an unknown place, perhaps to the Hall of Secrets.
