My new book Travel Sights Travel Guides don’t mention is free today. This book describes a large number of little known tourist sights from around the world. It is a book for the discerning traveller who has been everywhere else.
This is an excerpt:
The Canacombs is a museum of combs in Rome. These combs, made from ivory, were used by the servants of the Roman Emperors to comb the Emperor’s dogs. There are over 80 combs on show including the never-used comb for Caligula’s greyhound. This dog was too fast for anyone to catch. The most impressive exhibit is the comb used by the servants of the Emperor Nero, which weighs 200 pounds and is made from an entire elephant’s tusk. This meant that four men were required to use the implement at the same time to comb a dachshund called Augustus.
