Lochranza is a village located on the northern coast of Arran. A ferry goes from here to Claonaig on the Scottish mainland across the Firth of Clyde. The castle is photogenic especially in better weather when the broom-covered hillsides look lovely as a backdrop along with the sailing boats and reflections in the water. The mountains on all sides hold the village in a bowl and there are steep roads both to and from the village.

The Arran whisky distillery is a popular destination with its bright, open interior and shop full of whisky-related products and local artisanal products. The tours by Eunan are outstanding and cover the whisky-making process with particular emphasis on the quality of the water from the stream coming from the local Loch Davie. We also were allowed to taste four whiskies from the Arran range and they were all superb.
