The Giant’s Graves are two neolithic burial cairns on a hillside above the seaside town of Whiting Bay on the east coast of Arran, south of Lamlash. It’s a 10- or 15-minute walk from the first signpost to the cairns up two steepish sets of steps, but nothing major. The other path directs the walker to the Glenashdale Waterfalls, an upper and lower combination that are quite spectacular to behold, especially from the viewing platform. There are good direction markers from the graves to the falls and vice-versa.
I headed down into Whiting Bay and had a look around the town including the stone-built St Donan’s Church. I caught the bus back to Brodick and the Arran Museum. This is a wonderful heritage site including a school room from WWII, a creamery, a smiddy, and geological, archaeolgical, and social history displays.
From there, I headed towards the castle for a drink at the Arran Aromamatics Beach Bar looking across the bay towards Brodick. The temperature was 20 degrees Centigrade. Arran truly is Scotland in miniature!
