I still think Karen Armstrong is the best writer in the world.

This book is utterly amazing. It’s a biography of The Bible starting in 597 BC and finishing in the early 2000s. It is difficult to take in all that’s written down because there’s so much detail, so many fascinating characters from history, and such a wealth of ideas to read about. This is a work of reference.

I love Rabbi Hillel’s summary of the Torah from the first century AD, first spoken when he was standing on one leg for a bet.

I appreciate the author’s efforts to indicate The Bible is still being interpreted to this very day. She explains the beginnings of Zionism, both secular and religious, as well as the origins of ‘The Rapture’ and why the League of Nations / United Nations are reviled by certain sections of Israeli society.
