This is the third book in the Vera Stanhope series.

I’ve seen almost all of the TV shows and I must have seen the broadcast version around ten years ago, but I didn’t remember it when I was reading the book.

A teenage boy and a young female teacher are both found strangled in water, one in a bath and the other in a tidal rockpool. Suspicion falls on the friends of the husband of the wife who was one of the last people to see the young teacher alive, when she came to see a cottage the wife was going to rent.

Vera has to find a connection between the boy and the teacher and she and her team have to find out what this connection is. This takes time of course, but they get there in the end.

When I compare Vera and Shetland, I prefer the Shetland books and will read another one of those next. As for the TV shows, I like them equally although when Jimmy Perez left the Shetland TV show, the alternative was nowhere near as good.
