This is the fourth book set on the island of Lewis.

The former police officer Fin Macleod and his wife Marsaili return from Glasgow to the Isle of Lewis because his married son Fionnlagh has been arrested in connection with a murder.

The victim is an eighteen-year-old TV personality called Caitlin, a keen swimmer and canoeist found dead on a remote beach. Fionnlagh was having an affair with Caitlin and admits that he killed her after an argument. However, Fin doesn’t accept this explanation as a local environmentalist friend indicates that after the fight on the cliff, Caitlin swam to some salmon cages to take videos of the fish being eaten alive by sea lice.

So who did kill Caitlin?

This book has a very well written ending apart from the unnecessary storyline of a huge pod of pilot whales beaching themselves on a local beach. Fin keeps investigating and eventually puts the pieces together and goes to confront the murderer but they’ve been tipped off and are trying to leave the isle of Lewis.
