The first reason is that I took German in school and I was lucky enough to go on a school trip to the Rhine Valley in Germany via Ostend and Aachen. I enjoyed it so much visiting Koblenz, Cologne, Bonn, and various castles such as Berg Katz, Berg Maus, Pfalzgrafenstein, and Stolzenfels plus the Lorelei Rock and towns such as Bad Ems.

When I got home, I discovered that now I’d been to more countries than my mum and dad. I was shocked because my dad was keen to travel. He always said he would travel abroad when he retired. Five years later he died at the age of 49 and he never travelled abroad.

I was determined not to let this situation happen to me and I started to travel as soon as I could afford to do so because I honestly thought the same thing might happen to me, you know genetics etc.

And once you start to travel then it’s difficult to stop. I travel with an itinerary and I plan ahead, as I know that every place I go to I could certainly spend more time in and, if I did, I wouldn’t travel to all the places I want to go to. There are decisions to be made and you have to stick to your plans as all the places I visit on any trip, I want to go to equally – that’s why I am going.
