My regrets are that I didn’t travel to Libya and Iraq when I had a chance. The same applies to Sudan – I want to see their pyramids – I should have gone three years ago, but I was being greedy as I wanted to visit Ethiopia too and there was a war there, so I didn’t go to Sudan. There’s a lesson to learn.

However, I should concentrate on the places I have been to and think about all the things I’ve learned about the places I visit AND also more importantly the things I learn about myself, because travel throws up situations I don’t encounter in my normal, daily life and it’s so interesting how I react – connections not made, bookings being cancelled without notice, items being lost. The only way to truly understand a place is to visit the place yourself and make your own informed decisions based on what you see and hear. Don’t believe what anyone else says, don’t be influenced, go there and find out for yourself. Travel with an open mind and leave your home country not only physically but mentally too. What applies in one country needn’t apply in another.
