Having looked around sunny Shrewsbury in all its magnificence in the early morning light, I headed to Machynlleth, a lovely Welsh town that has a special role in Welsh history because of its connection with Owain Glyndŵr, a Prince of Wales who rebelled against King Henry IV.

There are a large number of interesting shops in the town as well as the Parliament house set up by Glyndwr in 1404. The countryside is right on your doorstep here and there are plenty of second-hand bookshops
