Milan was the starting point for my train travel in Northern Italy. The central station was completed in 1931 and has a mix of Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and Modernist styles. There’s an underground station here that can connect the traveller with most of the sights.
The Milan underground comprises five lines: M1 (red line), M2 (green line), M3 (yellow line), M4(blue line) and M5 (lilac line).
The Piazza del Duomo is four stops on the M3 line from the central station in the direction of San Donato. The piazza will provide access to the cathedral, art galleries, and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with La Scala just beyond.
When visiting the Duomo, you will have to buy a timed ticket from the ticket office ahead of your visit. The office is on the opposite side of the road from the cathedral near the Palazzo Reale. The cathedral is large, the floor is beautiful and the statues of San Bartolemo and Pope Pius XI are not flattering. The roof (visited separately) is amazing.
