I caught the train from Geneva to Fribourg via Lausanne. The carriages filled up the closer we came to Fribourg as though a lot of people were heading to Zurich. What travellers should check is that they’re sitting in the correct carriage to get to their destination, as some trains split at a particular station and head to different places. For example, I was sitting in one of the carriages heading to Zurich, but carriages at the back of the train would end up in Biel/ Bienne.
Fribourg or Freiburg is a lovely little town, but something to be aware of is that there seem to be a lot of smokers here. In restaurants, people can’t smoke inside and so go outside for a ciggie (sometimes 3-4 times in a meal), so sitting outside is not always a pleasant experience as the smokers appear to be truculent and think they have the right to blow their smoke over you. They don’t of course but their sense of entitlement is massive and there’s sometimes a whole tableful of people smoking together outside when you’re trying to enjoy the sunshine.
