Autumn Travel – Day 14 – Berne

Berne is the capital of Switzerland, but wandering around the UNESCO-World-Heritage-Site-listed old town you wouldn’t know it. There aren’t many police cars around and I didn’t hear a single siren during the entire day. I didn’t even see a government vehicle.

I did see three brown bears eating carrots in a pit by a bridge, I saw churches towering over the surrounding houses on slopes leading down to the clear water of the River Aare – you could see the bottom of the river from a hundred feet above, I did see alpine, natural history, and communication museums, and art galleries plus Albert Einstein’s house.

I also saw the peaks of the Bernese Overland where the setting sun was highlighting golden faces of rock and a few snow banks. The crows were going to roost and taking there time to do so and people were strolling over the bridge and on the wooded paths by the river.

This is a lovely place to visit.
