Autumn Travel – Day 15 – To Solothurn from Berne

In terms of the train system, Solothurn is off the main route. A suburban train leaves every thirty minutes from Berne during the main hours of the day and arrives at Solothurn thirty-five minutes later. The train looked brand new and takes passengers through farmland and small towns, stopping five times enroute.

Solothurn is said to be the most beautiful Baroque city in Switzerland with a number of Italianate buildings. Solothurn joined the Swiss Confederation in 1481 and remained Catholic during the Reformation, becoming the chosen residence of the French Ambassadors for over 250 years, starting in 1530.
