Autumn Travel – Day 17 – To Basle from Solothurn via Olten.

A quick trip on the train, with a change at Olten. On board the train from Solothurn to Olten, the monitors in the carriages were displaying all the forthcoming connections passengers could catch at Olten. Once I arrived, I knew exactly which platform my connection was leaving from and so I could head there immediately.

I had a seven-minute connection at Olten and made it with five minutes to spare.

Once in Basle, I went to the Basle Paper Mill with its history of paper-making, writing, and printing. This is a fascinating place I would recommend. I walked along the River Rhine and crossed over to the other bank to visit the Tinguely Museum – (Tinguely is pronounced Tan Gelly with the ‘G’ pronounced as the ‘G’ in get) – with the amazing artist’s incredible kinetic machines, plus his truly dark Mengele-Totentanz on the second floor – press the red button on the floor when the green light is on to make the fourteen pieces spring into death.
