Autumn Travel – Day 24 – Stein-am-Rhein

I caught the slower, stopping train back for part of my previous day’s journey and alighted at Stein-am-Rhein.

There’s a beautiful square called Rathausplatz where most of the buildings are covered in murals. Many ornate, metal signs compete for the visitor’s attention with the oriel windows and half-timbered buildings that stretch down to the street called Understadt with its clock tower.

It really is worth getting up early and visiting the place when the sun is lower and the light is gentler as this brings out the subtle colours of the various forms of art in this open-air gallery. There’s also less visitors. The train station is about five-minutes away from the bridge over the Rhine.
